School of Pharmacy

Every year 110 to 120 students enroll in the School of Pharmacy. Currently, there are about 700 students in the School and the pharmaceutical courses offered are taught by ten tenured professors, four associate professors and five assistant professors. Non-pharmaceutical courses are taught by faculty members of the School of Chemistry, the Faculty of Medicine, the School of Mathematics, the School of Physics and the School of Biology.

The undergraduate studies programme of the School is taught in Greek language and the minimum educational period for BSc is 5 years.  Graduates acquire contemporary Knowledge and experience in order to actively contribute in drug and health matters in society (Community Pharmacy, Cooperative Pharmacy,Hospital Pharmacy), State Health offices and Administration, National Organisation of Drugs, Pharmaceutical Industry, Drugs Analysis  (new and/or generics), Cosmetics Industry, Pharmaceutical Industry for Food additives –phytopharmaceutics  and aromatic plants, Pharmaceutical Research and Education, Clinical Pharmacy and/or Molecular Diagnosis.

The graduate studies programme of the School has been in operation since the academic year 2001-2002, offering specialization in various areas of pharmacy and leading to MSc in Pharmacy (five specializations) and PhD degrees.

The five specializations include:

1.  Medicinal Chemistry, Development of Pharmaceutical Compounds
2.  Pharmaceutical Technology (development and production of drugs, pharmaceutical analysis, drug quality control, cosmetics, biopharmaceutics)
3.  Biotechnology-Molecular Diagnostics
4. Pharmacology and Therapeutics
5. Pharmacognosy-Plant Pharmaceutical Products
